Registrar: Petition to Graduate
If you have petitioned for graduation, specific information regarding your graduation status will be posted in the “Display Petition Status” link in Student Records in Owl Express. If you have questions regarding the notes posted in this link, contact your advisor or one of our Degree Auditors in the Office of the Registrar. Degree Auditors can be contacted by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Petitions to Graduate will remain active for one consecutive semester; e.g., a petition submitted for Spring is valid through Summer of the same year.
There are no summer commencements. If you are petitioning to graduate for summer semester, you may participate in the Spring or Fall Commencement Ceremony. If participating in the Spring commencement ceremony, you must submit a summer petition by April 1 of the semester in which you wish to participate in the commencement ceremony.
How to Petition to Graduate
Bursar holds placed after the submission of the petition will prevent the diploma/certificate from being sent to you after the end of term
Undergraduate students are eligible to submit a formal petition for their degree through our online petition process when they have earned 90 credit hours.
To petition for graduation, login to Owl Express. You’ll select the Student Records tab, then select Petition to Graduate. The graduation petition process initiates a petition fee assessment, and the academic record will be audited to determine eligibility toward the degree.
Undergraduate Dual Degree and/or Double Majors
Dual degrees and double majors with attached concentrations and minors will be awarded upon degree completion. It is extremely important to verify dual degree/double major progression with the academic advisor prior to petitioning to graduate.
Dual Degree seeking students must submit two petitions, one for each degree type (BS, BA, BBA, etc.) and pay two petition fees, one for each degree type. Two diplomas will be issued. Should requirements for the first degree be completed before the requirements for the second degree, the first degree will be awarded before the second degree.
Double Major seeking students submit one petition with both majors, and pay one petition fee. One diploma will be issued. Should requirements for the first major be completed before the requirements for the second major, the first major will be awarded before the second major.

Login to Owl Express; select Student Records tab; select Petition to Graduate.
The graduation petition process initiates a petition fee assessment, and the academic record will be audited to determine eligibility toward the degree. Expect four to six weeks for results of an initial degree audit. Audit Results are viewable at the Display Petition Status link in Owl Express, and you will be prompted by email to view status changes in addition to essential audit results and graduation policies.
